Happy Halloween

Today was another eventful Halloween. It started with a busy morning at work. I went in early to finish up some projects before the Halloween festivities began. Our company has their 3rd quarter meeting and much to my surprise we are doing pretty well despite the bad economy. By noon I wrapped up my projects and headed for the elementary school. Every year practically the whole town shows up for the big Halloween parade. This year it was Joanna's first parade and sadly Libby's last. The kids had a good time marching in their costumes. Libby was a Ninja (that's my girl!) and Joanna was a very pretty fairy princess. Afterward there were class parties where Anne and I split the time in each of the kids classrooms. When school let out the kids and I headed back to my office where they got to trick or treat around the building. We have a pretty good sized office and girls got tons and tons of candy (more then we will ever need). After a long afternoon of trick or treating, we went home, ate dinner and headed back out for more. We live in the woods and the houses are not that close together so it takes a lot of walking just to cover the eight houses on our street. The girls were finally tired out as was I so went back home and watched a movie and handed out candy to the few trick or treaters came to our door (again we live in the woods). So now its 10 pm the girls are fast asleep and I uploading photos, writing this blog and stuffing my face with Nestle crunch bars. All in all a nice Halloween.

Down go the Trees

The past week my neighbors got together and a helped me remove a lot of trees in my front yard.
We live in the woods and my yard get very little sunlight. I have been wanting to get them removed for years but it was very expensive to do it.

A few weeks ago at the bus stop (a place where the us dads congregate in the morning while the kids go to school) My neighbor asked me if I would like him to bring his excavator over and take down some trees. Yes, he owns an excavator and No, he is not in construction. He was using it to put in a a pool for himself. Before I could even respond, my other two neighbors looking for any excuse to use a chainsaw jumped on the bandwagon.

So on Saturday afternoon they knocked down about 10 trees in the front yard. It would have been more but due to where the septic tank was and the size of one the trees we had to stop. It was pretty amazing and a little scary watching this thing push down these huge trees.

This is once again another reason why I like to live here. When I was growing up I lived in a neighborhood where the neighbors really didn't socialize much. Most of my neighbors were much older then my parents and kind of crabby.

Our neighborhood now is far from that place I grew up. Here, we help each other out with the kids, crazy projects, computers what ever. Its a good place to be!

Long Weekend in October

Anne (www.smmalltownmommy.com) had a blogging conference outside of Boston last weekend so me and the kids decided to tag along. While Anne was at her conference the girls and I went to the mall and of course the hotel pool. Afterward we visited one of my old roommates from back in the day, who now is married with 2.5 kids of his own. It was great seeing them and catching up. Sunday we had lunch at Legal Seafood which is one of my favorite places to eat in the Beantown area. In the afternoon we headed to Sturbridge Village where they were having a scarecrow contest. It was a beautiful fall weekend as you can see from the slide show above. It's great to get away with the family.

Week one without the Wii.

Its been over a week since our Nintendo Wii had to be sent out for repair. Fall is here so we actually ventured outside. It was such a strange sensation so real and life like. No remote was needed either. The girls actually love playing. Even without the Wii fit little Joanna is growing and getting stronger by the minute as shown. Game play was good and overall I highly recommend it.
